Janette Muir

Janette Kenner Muir (Ph.D. University of Massachusetts, 1986) is an Associate Professor in New Century College.  Her academic life is focused in the areas of political communication, civic engagement and the study of the presidency (from campaigns to spouses).  She recently published an edited volume titled, “Readings in Political Communication,” and was featured in a Harvard International Review symposium, writing about media, politics and citizen participation. Her courses tend to be highly interactive — from taking students to New Hampshire to follow presidential candidate campaigns, to involving them in campus experiences to deepen their political awareness.

Dr. Muir has received several teaching excellence recognitions, she is a C-SPAN Fellow, a Communication Centennial Scholar, Past President of the Eastern Communication Association, and she most recently completed her tenure as editor of Communication Quarterly, a top-tier journal in the Communication discipline.  Dr. Muir also participates in several University committees on curriculum and academic policies, and has been a member of the Faculty Senate for three years.

She lives in Manassas with her husband, two children, mother and seven pets; free time is spent involved in music, the arts, and volunteering within her community
